Welcome to Goodtown, Tasmania!
Goodtown Distilling Co is the culmination of years of curiosity and exploration in the world of drinks and farm-to-table products.
Everything is made by hand in our facility at 11 Mary Street, Goodtown, on melukerdee country in southern lutruwitta. Nothing is bottled without passing a rigorous standard of excellence.
I moved to Southern Tasmania in 2014 after a volunteer bartending role at the inaugural Festival Called Panama enchanted me with the natural beauty and potential of Tasmania - how far it was from the rest of the world, and how in many ways a place so seemingly small could also be at the centre of it.
2014 also marked the start of Spirit People - a business venture founded on discovery of novel spirits and liqueurs in Europe and around the world, and connecting those with curious bartenders and imbibers at home here in Australia.
In 2018 I scaled back the import and distribution business to focus on events and catering that would allow me to spend more time at home here in Tasmania and reduce the burnout of constant travel interstate.
2020 turned our oceanic border into a hard one, necessitating a shift away from public-facing events, and allowed me to put my energy into setting up a distillery on-site and learning to distil on honest equipment in order to make honest spirits. This started with long macerations of coffee and wild ferments of hand-picked apples from my 6th-cousin's (twice-removed) old orchard in Woodbridge that has now turned into a horse paddock.
2022 was about identifying a new brand identity that leans into location and allows for fresh storytelling and deeper collaboration.
I have to issue a huge thanks to Henry Wagons for his blessing on using the name (Henry, your bottles are in the mail).
Finally in 2026, the first products were decanted into bottles.
There is a great little group around this project and I hope that you will find some ways to enjoy and appreciate the produce and craftsmanship coming out of Goodtown.
